Lead Engineer & Solution Architect

About the role

EY is looking for a Lead Engineer & Solution Architect in Nicosia who will lead the design and delivery of complex digital solutions from early shaping through implementation and operation. The role combines solution architecture with engineering management: defining the technical approach, turning it into an executable delivery plan and leading multidisciplinary engineers to deliver secure, resilient and maintainable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Define conceptual, logical, application, integration and deployment architectures aligned to business capabilities, functional and non-functional requirements, and decompose solutions into components and services with defined boundaries, interfaces and deployment approaches.
• Own the end-to-end solution design across frontend, backend, integration, data, cloud and AI components, evaluating options and documenting decisions through architecture views, decision records and implementation guidance.
• Ensure architecture addresses security, privacy, scalability, resilience, performance, observability, maintainability, operability and cost efficiency.
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through mobilisation, design, build, test, release and transition to operations, balancing hands-on involvement with delegation to technical leads and senior engineers.
• Turn the architecture into an actionable engineering plan with work breakdown, sequencing, dependencies, estimates, milestones and delivery risks, and partner with delivery and product leadership on scope, priorities and capacity.
• Establish engineering standards for coding, testing, security, accessibility, documentation, source control, CI/CD and operational readiness, and mentor engineers and technical leads.
• Evaluate technology stacks, frameworks, platforms and cloud services, applying modern patterns such as API-first, event-driven, domain-oriented, serverless and microservices, and guide cloud-native and hybrid design.
• Identify opportunities to use generative AI in solutions and engineering workflows, set guardrails for AI-assisted work and maintain traceability and human oversight.
• Work with clients, product owners, delivery managers, security and operations stakeholders, communicate decisions clearly, lead design workshops and architecture reviews, and contribute to pursuits, proposals, discovery, estimation and technical due diligence.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant responsibility for enterprise-scale solution delivery.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams as an Engineering Manager, Technical Lead or equivalent.
• Proven experience defining solution architectures from concept through implementation and operational transition.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Ideally, a Master's degree, a recognised architecture certification such as TOGAF, a cloud solution or platform architecture certification, and training or certification in AI-enabled or AI-native solution architecture.
