Transportation Specialist – Bridge Inspection (II‑IV)

About the role

The Transportation Specialist will provide technical expertise and coordination for bridge design, inspection and appraisal programs. The position supports multiple design projects and ensures compliance with departmental standards and the Bridge Inspection Manual.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret plans, schematics, blueprints and maps for bridge projects.
• Assist with design calculations, sketches, layouts and typical sections.
• Inspect and appraise bridge structures, prepare follow‑up worksheets and monitor maintenance actions.
• Develop site layouts using engineering workstations and software.
• Conduct immediate inspections of damaged bridges, recommend repairs or closures, and coordinate with maintenance personnel.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate bridge inspection program activities.
• Provide high‑level technical assistance and coordinate field staff on construction issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline.
• Relevant experience in transportation, bridge design or inspection, appropriate to the level (II, III, or IV).
• Ability to work independently, establish work plans and prioritize objectives.

Required skills

• Reading technical plans, schematics, blueprints and maps.
• Design calculations and sketching of bridge layouts.
• Bridge inspection and appraisal according to the Bridge Inspection Manual.
• Proficiency with engineering workstations and software.
