Operations Officer – Freight & Shipping

About the role

Gezairi is looking for an Operations Officer in Nicosia to manage the day-to-day activities of the vessels it represents or serves and to provide feedback to Operations management. The role covers the shipping process of goods by air, sea or road, including cargo handling, documentation and coordination with customs.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure that all department policies and procedures are implemented.
• Help acquire new business deals for GTBook space on vessels, airplanes and road transport.
• Handle the shipping process of goods using the appropriate mode of transport and communicate cargo details to decide on the best method.
• Oversee loading and discharging of cargo and coordinate the consolidation of small loads into full loads.
• Prepare the documentation needed for customs compliance and liaise with customs to keep operations running smoothly.
• Liaise with third parties to move goods by road, air or sea according to customers' requirements.
• Arrange payment of freight and other charges, or collect payments on behalf of the client, in coordination with the supervisor; coordinate with the GT supervisor for invoice issuance.
• Keep up to date with legislation, political situations and other factors affecting freight movement.
• Assist clients with claims, handle minor problems and report major issues to the GT supervisor; report insurance and client claims to the supervisor.
• Help consolidate information and prepare reports as requested.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, preferably with a focus on Distribution and Logistics.
• At least 5 years of experience in the NVOCC or shipping industry.
• Willingness to complete a 2-month rotational training across different departments.
