Privacy Engineering Director

About the role

DuckDuckGo is looking for a senior leader to own the most complex and high‑stakes privacy challenges across its products. As the Privacy Engineering Director you will drive end‑to‑end privacy initiatives, shape strategy, and mentor the next generation of privacy engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Define, own, and deliver high‑complexity privacy projects from concept through production.
• Evolve privacy triage and review processes, building automation to reduce engineering toil.
• Develop and maintain a privacy engineering framework for agentic browsing and private search products.
• Grow and mentor a team of privacy engineers, fostering technical excellence.
• Contribute to company‑wide privacy strategy and cross‑functional collaboration.

Required profile

• 10+ years leading privacy reviews, audits, or technical privacy programs at a consumer‑facing product with >1 M users.
• 4+ years of privacy‑engineering leadership experience building infrastructure, data‑minimisation, or privacy‑preserving solutions.
• Director, Head of, or VP‑level experience with direct management, hiring, and technical ownership.
• Proven ability to drive high‑complexity, cross‑functional projects with minimal direction.
• Strong communication skills translating privacy principles into engineering decisions.
• Track record of improving processes through automation and scalable review systems.
• Passion for privacy and raising the standard of trust online.
