About the role
Our client, a leading commercial law firm in Cyprus, is expanding its regulatory practice and seeks a Junior Associate to advise regulated financial institutions on Cyprus and EU financial services law. The role offers exposure to sophisticated domestic and cross‑border mandates across a broad range of regulated sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Advise financial institutions and services businesses on licensing, authorisation and regulatory structuring.
- Provide ongoing regulatory and compliance advice under Cyprus and EU legislation.
- Interact with the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) and other authorities on behalf of clients.
- Draft, review and implement AML/CTF, sanctions, governance, risk‑management and compliance policies.
- Support regulatory applications, licensing projects, restructurings and changes to business models.
- Advise on cross‑border regulatory matters for international financial groups.
- Draft and negotiate regulatory, compliance and corporate documentation.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess client impact.
- Collaborate with clients' compliance, legal, risk and senior‑management teams.
- Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to practice development.
Required profile
- Qualified lawyer with substantial post‑qualification experience in financial services regulation.
- Experience gained within a reputable commercial law firm or comparable regulatory environment.
- Demonstrated advisory work for investment firms, EMIs, payment institutions, fund managers or similar entities.
- Strong knowledge of Cyprus financial services regulation and the CySEC framework.
- Proven expertise in AML/CTF, sanctions, governance and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with licensing, regulatory structuring and ongoing compliance matters.
- Exposure to cross‑border financial services regulatory issues.
- Excellent drafting, analytical and client‑management abilities.
