Installation and Commissioning Specialist Overhead Cranes

About the role

Hyperion Systems Engineering Group is seeking an experienced Installation & Commissioning Specialist to work on international steel‑plant projects. You will be employed by Hyperion and deployed to a world‑leading automation supplier, handling the field commissioning of overhead travelling cranes and material‑handling systems.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise installation, alignment and mechanical completion of bridge cranes, hoists, trolleys, run‑ways and auxiliary systems.
• Lead pre‑commissioning, cold commissioning and functional testing of drives, brakes, encoders, limit switches, interlocks and safety systems.
• Plan and support no‑load, rated‑load, overload and dynamic load testing, including customer and third‑party witnessing.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, PLC/HMI and automation issues on‑site, coordinating with contractors, suppliers and customer teams.
• Own commissioning documentation – punch lists, NCRs, checklists, test records – through to hand‑over.
• Train customer operators and maintenance teams, and mentor junior engineers on‑site.

Required profile

• 5–10 years’ experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance or troubleshooting of overhead cranes or industrial lifting equipment.
• Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
• Hands‑on knowledge of crane mechanical systems: hoists, travel mechanisms, brakes, gearboxes, wire ropes, rails.
• Practical familiarity with PLCs/safety PLCs, drive systems, HMI platforms, industrial networks, anti‑sway and anti‑collision systems.
• Fluent English and ability to work in international, multidisciplinary project teams.

Required skills

• Overhead crane mechanical systems (hoists, brakes, gearboxes, wire ropes, run‑ways).
• PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens S7, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, ABB, Yaskawa).
• Drive and HMI integration for crane automation.
• Industrial networking and safety PLCs.
• Anti‑sway and anti‑collision control systems.
• Load testing procedures and statutory acceptance witnessing.
