Tech Lead – Rust Server Development

About the role

ChillBase studio, an independent gaming studio behind the social role‑play game OneState, is looking for a Tech Lead to drive the server‑side platform. You will own the technical direction of a distributed microservice ecosystem, ensure high code quality, and mentor a growing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evolve the architecture of a platform composed of dozens of Rust microservices.
• Define API contracts using gRPC, Protobuf and REST, and oversee their implementation.
• Build and maintain a Kafka‑based event‑driven system, handling schemas, ordering and delivery guarantees.
• Develop, review and optimise Rust server code, addressing performance, reliability and technical debt.
• Design database solutions (MySQL/MariaDB, ClickHouse) including transactions, indexing and migrations.
• Improve Kubernetes/GKE infrastructure, GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement observability (metrics, tracing, alerting, SLOs) across the platform.
• Guide authentication and authorization design using OAuth2, OIDC, JWT and IAM.
• Mentor engineers, participate in hiring and help set engineering standards.

Required profile

• Commercial experience developing production‑grade services in Rust, with deep knowledge of async, error handling and the type system.
• Hands‑on experience designing microservice architectures and event‑driven systems with Kafka.
• Strong understanding of gRPC/Protobuf, API versioning and backward compatibility.
• Proficiency with SQL, MySQL/MariaDB and columnar stores such as ClickHouse.
• Experience operating Kubernetes clusters on GCP/GKE, using Helm, ArgoCD and GitOps practices.
• Familiarity with modern auth standards (OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, IAM) and building observability pipelines.
• Previous experience as a Tech Lead or Team Lead, including code reviews, planning and mentoring.
