Senior Regulatory Counsel (Remote, UK/EU)

About the role

Payward is seeking a Senior Regulatory Counsel to join its Kraken Regulatory Legal team. The role is fully remote and supports Payward’s crypto‑related products across the EU and UK, handling day‑to‑day regulatory work so senior lawyers can focus on strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal support on crypto‑asset, e‑money and payment services regulatory requirements, including account‑access obligations.
• Assist with active licensing applications and EU/UK registration workstreams, preparing materials and coordinating external counsel.
• Support corporate transactions and structural changes affecting EU/UK entities, such as change‑of‑control notifications.
• Maintain day‑to‑day relationships with regulators, handling notifications, information requests and supervisory correspondence.
• Translate complex frameworks (MiCA, UK Cryptoasset Regime, AML/CTF, DORA, outsourcing rules) into pragmatic guidance for the business.
• Promote clear, plain‑English communication and provide decision‑ready recommendations.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor/barrister in England & Wales, Ireland or an EU Member State.
• 10+ years post‑qualification experience in financial services regulatory law.
• Direct experience engaging with regulators such as the FCA, CBI or EU competent authorities.
• Substantive knowledge of MiCA or the UK Cryptoasset Regime.
• Experience with e‑money and payment services regulation in the EU or UK.
• Background in AML/CTF compliance and outsourcing/operational resilience.
• Strong analytical, drafting and organisational abilities with plain‑English writing style.
• Ability to distill complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for non‑lawyers.
• Commercially accountable, pragmatic approach to regulatory risk.
• Comfortable working autonomously on a fast‑moving BAU workload.
