Software Engineer II - Backend - Payments

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join the Payments & Blockchain team, building the core services that move every dollar in and out of Kraken’s platform. You will design and implement robust, high‑performance libraries that enable seamless payments integration across our products.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services and libraries for payments integration.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient code following best practices.
• Collaborate with product, design, and front‑end engineering teams to deliver new features in a large‑scale distributed architecture.
• Partner closely with crypto‑native engineers to ensure security and reliability.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong focus on security‑first design principles.
• Ability to independently debug issues across OS, network, and application layers.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, RPC protocols, Kafka, and event‑driven architectures.

Required skills

• Rust or Node/Typescript for backend development.
• RPC protocol implementation.
• Kafka messaging system.
• Event‑driven system design.
