Senior IP Counsel

About the role

JetBrains is seeking a senior, commercially‑minded Intellectual Property and Data Protection Lawyer to join its in‑house legal team. The role will shape and support global IP and privacy strategy, working closely with the Platform Project Office and innovation initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on all aspects of IP law, including copyrights, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, domain names, licensing and brand protection.
• Develop and maintain a global IP strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Draft, review and negotiate IP‑related agreements such as licensing, SaaS, technology transfer, NDAs and open‑source compliance documents.
• Lead privacy and data‑protection compliance programmes, covering GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy, CCPA/CPRA and international data‑transfer requirements.
• Conduct DPIAs, legitimate‑interest assessments, data‑mapping exercises and support data‑processing agreements.
• Provide legal support for technology transactions, strategic partnerships, acquisitions and scaling of new products and platforms.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent EU jurisdiction) with 8–12 years PQE in IP, technology and data‑protection law.
• Strong experience advising software, SaaS or digital‑product businesses and negotiating complex commercial technology agreements.
• Proven ability to manage cross‑border legal and regulatory matters and to balance legal risk with commercial objectives.
• Excellent drafting, analytical and stakeholder‑management skills, with fluency in English.
