Senior Database Administrator – Core Infrastructure

About the role

Join a senior team of DBAs and SREs responsible for the database platform that powers many of Kraken’s critical services. You will help scale distributed MariaDB environments, automate operations, and improve reliability as the company expands globally.

Key responsibilities

• Scale and tune high‑throughput MariaDB clusters to support global expansion and new products.
• Design and validate high‑availability, disaster‑recovery, and backup strategies.
• Build automation to reduce manual database work and enable low‑friction workflows.
• Improve observability, alert quality, and security through robust metrics and access controls.
• Contribute to modern platform initiatives such as containerised environments and infrastructure‑as‑code deployments.
• Partner with service teams to drive performance, operational readiness, and database hygiene.
• Participate in on‑call rotations while focusing on predictability and preventative engineering.

Required profile

• 5+ years operating MariaDB/MySQL in high‑volume production, including tuning, replication and troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of high‑availability patterns, distributed database behavior and failure scenarios.
• Hands‑on experience with database proxies or load‑balancing layers (HAProxy, ProxySQL, MaxScale).
