Risk Underwriter

About the role

We are expanding our team and seeking an experienced Risk Underwriter to serve as the primary gatekeeper for merchant onboarding and risk assessment. You will analyze acquiring and card merchant applications to ensure compliance with our risk policies and mitigate fraud exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Review new merchant applications promptly and manage the underwriting pipeline.
• Interact with internal and external sales agents and merchants to resolve pending items.
• Apply KYC, Card Scheme rules, FinCEN Beneficial Ownership, and CDD requirements.
• Analyze consumer credit reports, Mastercard MATCH and Visa VMASS data.
• Read and evaluate complex financial statements and business bank statements.
• Identify fraudulent applications using internal and external underwriting tools.
• Provide underwriting reports and KPIs to management.
• Assist in cross‑departmental training and maintain underwriting policies.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years hands‑on underwriting experience in FinTech or payments.
• Strong understanding of various business models, including high‑risk and card‑not‑present merchants.
• Business fluency in English and high attention to detail.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field.
