Lead ML Engineer

About the role

Mayflower is looking for a Lead ML Engineer to own a new machine‑learning stream that delivers applied ML solutions across multiple product and business domains. The role combines hands‑on engineering with end‑to‑end technical delivery ownership.

Key responsibilities

• Turn product and business problems into concrete ML implementation plans, define scope, milestones, risks and delivery estimates.
• Design, train, evaluate and deploy ML models; write production‑quality Python, build APIs, batch jobs and data‑processing pipelines.
• Integrate models into existing systems, implement testing, monitoring and observability, and support production rollout.
• Coordinate the work of Data Scientists and ML Engineers, review technical approaches and keep initiatives on track.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering and other stakeholders, communicate estimates, trade‑offs and delivery status.

Required profile

• 5+ years of commercial experience in Machine Learning, Data Science or ML Engineering.
• Strong hands‑on Python programming and software engineering skills.
• Experience taking ML solutions from requirement through experimentation, implementation, integration and production.
• Solid understanding of machine‑learning methods, statistics, experimentation and model evaluation.
• Proficiency with SQL and handling large production datasets.
• Practical experience with Docker and production deployment environments.
• Ability to turn partially defined problems into concrete technical plans and estimate work.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with product and technical stakeholders.
