Head of Engineering

About the role

Altery, a regulated fintech platform operating across payments, EMI, wallets, cards, crypto and cross‑border services, is looking for a Head of Engineering. You will own delivery execution, engineering performance and operational excellence across all engineering streams, reporting to the executive team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow the engineering organisation, managing all Delivery Leads and fostering a culture of accountability and quality.
• Run the Delivery Governance function, defining standards, processes and ensuring predictable execution against roadmaps.
• Act as Major Incident Commander, overseeing release management, incident response and compliance with DORA/FCA operational resilience requirements.
• Drive AI adoption in engineering, from capacity planning to incident detection, and quantify productivity gains.
• Allocate engineering capacity, balance delivery with technical debt, and own cloud cost efficiency (FinOps).
• Develop competency frameworks, career ladders and co‑own the Developer Experience programme.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading large engineering organisations, with manager‑of‑managers responsibility.
• Background in fintech, payments, banking, SaaS or crypto within a highly regulated, high‑growth environment.
• Proven expertise in delivery frameworks (DORA, DevOps, SPACE, flow metrics) and modern CI/CD practices.
• Working knowledge of DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) and FCA operational resilience requirements.
• Hands‑on experience driving AI adoption and measuring its impact.
• Calm, structured decision‑making under pressure with strong stakeholder and commercial judgement.
