Lead Ruby on Rails Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Ruby on Rails Software Engineer to drive the architecture and delivery of complex, high‑scale applications. This technical leadership position combines hands‑on development with mentorship and cross‑team coordination, supporting our global education‑technology platform.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of Ruby on Rails applications.
• Plan and oversee large technical projects that involve multiple engineering teams.
• Coordinate tasks and assignments across cross‑functional teams.
• Define coding standards, technical direction, and engineering best practices.
• Mentor junior, intermediate, and senior engineers.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Architecture teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and resolve issues.
• Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions aligned with business goals.
• Lead prototyping and research initiatives for future platform improvements.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software development experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Strong experience designing and scaling APIs, distributed systems, and web applications.
• Proficiency with MySQL or other relational databases.
• Experience with Git and modern CI/CD practices.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to communicate in Russian or Ukrainian is a plus.
• 2+ years planning and executing cross‑team technical projects.
